ABOUT US

“Dream, dream, dream, dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result into action.” – Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

Mansa is located in the rural area of North Gujarat and is mainly peopled by farmers.

A few leading citizens of Mansa dreamt of establishing an educational institution in Mansa for Higher Education and held a meeting on August 10, 1959 wherein the decision was taken unanimously. A trust was formed with philanthropic view and the name was given “Sarvodaya Higher Education Society.”

The ‘Dream’ was materialised and in 1960 L. H. Science College and S. D. Arts College were established. One more feather was added in the form of Shah B. R. Commerce College in 1968.

It was Saint Ravishankar Maharaj, the great social reformer who laid the foundation stone of the hostel building. The rites of the inauguration of the college were performed by the then Finance Minister Shri Morarji Desai. Names of the magnanimous donors were associated with the college; Sheth Shri Lallubhai Hakamchand with Science College and Sheth Shri Sankalchand Damodardas Shah and B. R. Shah with Arts and Commerce Colleges respectively. The science college had received the donation of Rs. 2,25,000/- and Arts College Rs. 1,00,501/- The most note-worthy fact is that the college had received even the meagre amount of Rs. 10/- from the people of poor stratum of the society.

Today, the seed sown has become a great tree under the shadow of which more than 2300 students are exploring various branches of knowledge. The college has a post-graduate centre in Gujarati and Hindi since 1974.

S. D. Arts and Shah B. R. Commerce College is Affiliated to Gujarat University.

During the academic year 2007-08, 800 students approached the college for admission to F.Y.B.A. and F.Y. B.Com., out of which 641 students enrolled themselves for F.Y.B.A. and 182 students for F.Y.B.Com.

The ratio of boys and girls in the college is 47.46% and 52.53% respectively. Girls have been observed to reveal more interest in literary subjects. The number of staff (faculties) is 21 including 2 lady professors in Hindi and Gujarati and 09 Ad-hoc professors in Economics, Sanskrit, Business Law and Sports.

Today, S. D. Arts and Shah B. R.
